Photographing toddlers is all about embracing their energy rather than trying to keep them perfectly still. For this Jersey City family photography session, I met mom, dad, and their adorable two-year-old daughter at Van Vorst Park. The fall foliage created a beautiful backdrop, but it was their little girl's energy and personality that truly made the session memorable.
At two years old, she was ready to explore everything around her, which gave me plenty of opportunities for genuine smiles, laughter, and playful photographs. I followed her lead, letting her run, play, explore, and interact with mom and dad throughout the session. There were lots of cuddles, little games, walking hand-in-hand, and plenty of those funny toddler moments that happen when children are simply being themselves.
As a Jersey City family photographer, I love photographing families at Van Vorst Park because it offers such a charming neighborhood setting for outdoor family photos. The beautiful trees and fall colors create a warm, seasonal backdrop, while the park itself gives little ones room to move and play. My goal during every family session is to create photographs that feel natural and full of connection rather than overly posed. Years from now, I hope these images bring this family back to this particular season of life — the tiny hands, big personality, toddler energy, and all the joy that comes with being two.
