Cake smash session outdoors? Yes, PLEASE!

My outdoor cake smash sessions are always relaxed and baby-led. I usually begin with a few clean portraits of the baby before the cake comes out—capturing sweet smiles, tiny hands, and those proud “I’m one!” moments. This is also the time when we will take family portraits. Once the cake is introduced, the fun (and mess) begins. Some babies dive right in, while others cautiously poke, taste, and investigate. Every reaction is perfect—and every session unfolds differently, which is part of the magic.

Unlike studio sessions, outdoor cake smash photography allows your baby to explore, move freely, and react naturally—often resulting in genuine smiles and curious expressions.

- Schedule the session around your baby’s happiest time of day.

- Bring wipes, water, and a change of clothes.

- Keep expectations flexible—every baby reacts differently.

- Let your child take the lead (the best moments are often unplanned!).
